Biography

Picture of Jeremy HavardiI was born in Harrow (not far from the famous school) and was brought up in the historic village of Pinner in Middlesex. I was educated at Orley Farm School in Harrow between 1980 and 1984 and then Haberdashers' Aske's School in Elstree between 1984 and 1991, where I excelled in the arts and developed a strong interest in philosophy. I then read philosophy at Bristol University, gaining a BA and MA in the subject in 1994-1995. I then took an MPhil in the philosophy of mind and psychology at King's College, University of London before studying modern History at the Open University. I am currently Head of History at a school in London, where I also teach philosophy of religion.

My book, 'Falling to Pieces: Self deception and the divided mind' was published in 2004 and is based on research work I did at King's College on irrationality and self deception. My main philosophical interests are in the philosophy of mind and psychoanalysis, the analytical philosophy of religion, political philosophy and the writings of Nietzsche, Hume and Kant. My main historical interests are nineteenth century British imperial policy, the total wars of the twentieth century, British national identity, the history of the Zionist movement and Churchill. I am currently writing a book on Winston Churchill, sections of which will appear on this site in due course.

My main hobbies are playing the flute (mainly classical music), philately, drama, table tennis and watching old movies - when I get the chance!
